VIRGINIA AMENDMENTS PROJECT

How many times has Virginia’s constitution been amended since its 1971 revision? The answer is more complicated than you might think.
Before the Virginia Amendments Project was launched in 2022, there was no publicly available, easily accessible list of amendments to the Constitution of Virginia. Moreover, sources that would normally provide even the number of amendments were incomplete or inaccurate.
This lack of available information suggested an urgent need for public information about the Constitution of Virginia. The dearth affects scholars of law and political science who wish to study our state constitution, K12 or higher ed teachers who are engaging students in Virginia history and civic education, and any Virginia citizen who wishes to learn about the Commonwealth’s constitutional tradition.
The Virginia Amendments Project at Randolph-Macon College addresses this immediate need for a public resource detailing amendments to the Constitution of Virginia. The VAP also aims to provide a hub for conversation, scholarship, and public awareness of the importance of the state constitution for citizens of Virginia.
Vocation in undergraduate education
Rich Meagher is a Faculty Fellow for NetVUE, the Network for Vocation in Undergraduate Education, a program of the Council of Independent Colleges.
Vocation refers to a summons, call, or invitation to a life of meaning, purpose, and contribution. When incorporated into undergraduate education, vocation includes approaches to teaching and mentoring that help educators talk with students about values and passions; emphasize meaning, purpose, impact, and living a good life; and recognize multiple paths, winding journeys, and alternatives
The Network for Vocation in Undergraduate Education (NetVUE) is a nationwide network of nearly 350 colleges and universities formed to support and enrich vocational exploration and discernment among undergraduate students. A program of the Council of Independent Colleges, NetVUE is supported by the generosity of Lilly Endowment Inc. and member dues. CIC administers NetVUE with guidance from an advisory council comprising representatives from participating institutions.
